Muehlebach Hotel - Plantation Grill Serviceware Suite

In 1922 a jazz orchestra founded by Carlton Coon and Joe Sanders began broadcasting one of the first music radio shows from the Plantation Grill at the Hotel Muehlebach in Kansas City. By the time the group left for a 3 month engagement in Chicago in 1924 the Coon-Sanders Nighthawk Orchestra fan club had more than 37,000 members. Although the old Muehlebach Hotel building still stands the Plantation Grill and many other spaces in the old hotel have been renovated or repurposed for meeting and conference space. Own a piece of music history with this collection of cotton boll pattern serviceware, assembled over the course of 20+ years from online auctions and estate sales. The scarcity of these pieces alone is of interest to collectors of hotelware and serviceware. This collection includes a pair of 8” side plates, a single 6 ½” serving bowl, a pair of 5 ¼” sauce bowls, and a creamer service. Pieces are in very good condition with no chips or cracks.
